Field trials in the northeast kicked off with the Nazareth fall trial at Freeland Kennel Club. We thank all that came to participate, and all that came to help. Shelia Hart, Alex Smith, Jeff Currier, and Andy Bogar judged this year, and we can't thank y'all enough. Tiffani Smith planted birds, made lunches, cooked and sponsored a dinner on Friday night, and everything else that goes behind the scenes. Frank Henderson took over bird planting on Saturday. This trial would not be possible without hard work and people offering to judge so again I say, thank you.

On Friday, the Open Walking stakes ran following a short fog delay. Robert Ecker won the Open Derby with Charm City Mac. Mac had nice bird work and a fluid race. Second place went to Bonnie, a snappy setter female handled and owned by Angelo Calabro. Rounding out the placements with third was Mark Hughes with Ellie. All the young dogs had broke finds under tough wet birds.

The Open Restricted Shooting Dog was won by Feed the Flame. Flame scored multiple finds for Samantha Adams with a smooth race. Robert Ecker took second with Lizard Creek All Zoom. It was a close call separating first and second. Third place went to Mark Hughes with a very birdy setter named Spek.

Mark Hughes made a clean sweep of the Open Shooting Dog taking first, second, and third with Miles, Dusty, and Dash respectively. Mark had 5 or 6 dogs that could have taken the placements, all with beautiful finds and forward races, but as we know it is the little things that decided the outcome. Dusty hunted every inch of the course and had a limb find that the bird planter just happened to see from the back of the gallery to secure her second place. Miles' ground speed and gait could not be overlooked, standing like a bull always to the front to take the top spot.

Saturday came with the horseback stakes under a cool morning for late August. The Open Derby was won by Matt Basilone with Cora. This snappy female had a perfect find with a race to accompany it. Second place went to Alex Smith with Calico's Leather and Lace, with 2 finds and fast race. Third was a setter male named Juan, handled by Matt Basilone.

The Amateur Shooting Dog closed out the trial. Bird work was in abundance and caused difficulties for some. Dave McKay took advantage of the birds and scored 6 finds with Candy. Candy made it look easy, scoring again and again for Dave. Never out of hand and always looking for her handler and game. Second place went to Calico's Country Strong handled by young Brayden Smith. Strong had 6 finds as well with a strong race. Ed McCay rounded out the placements with his Brittany Gunner. Gunner had multiply finds and a nice race.
