U. S. Complete Northeast Regional Championship (l-r): Joe Cammisa (judge), John Stolgitis with Chasehill Poison Ivy, Bill Bonnetti (chairman), Tim Cavanaugh with Little Miss Margaret, and Mitch Swierczynski (judge).

This year's renewal of the U. S. Complete Shooting Dog Association Northeast Regional Championship was held May 4-5 at the Arcadia Wildlife Management Area in Exeter, Rhode Island. We had pleasant mid-spring weather conditions throughout the trial. The field trial grounds, which are maintained by the State, had been mowed prior to the spring field trial season, thus affording us opportunities to see a dog farther out on certain parts of the course. Judges for the Championship were Joe Cammisa of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Mitch Swierczynski of Griswold, Connecticut. Both gentlemen are well-accomplished field trialers, club officials, and judges. We were very fortunate to secure them as judges.

Not only as your scribe but also as the trial chairman, I would like to thank my wife, Jayne, for everything she does to help me put these events on. More than one New England field trialer has been heard saying, "The only reason they come to our trials is for Jaynie's cooking and hospitality." I would also like to personally thank a few other people: Bob Fleury and his grandson, Brady, for their help and support in bringing their generator for the well and their side-by-side for our usage, as well as Rich Giuliano, who attended the event to help plant birds.

Many thanks to our U. S. Complete corporate sponsors, Purina and Garmin, who provide generous support to all of our Regional and National Championships. Without their commitment and dedication to field trials, we would not be capable of continuing with this tremendous, wholesome sport.

The runner-up champion, Little Miss Margaret, would come out of the first day of running. This liver and white pointer female, owned and handled by Tim Cavanaugh, is no stranger to the winners' circle. Margaret was braced with Cape Point Lucky Strike, a black and white setter male, who, according to the judges, was being carried behind Margaret up until the next-to-last brace of the trial, when the winner would ultimately emerge. Both dogs were strong and forward, scoring three nice finds each, Margaret just really showing a lot of "pizazz" on this day.

The winner, Chasehill Poison Ivy, also no stranger to the winners' circle, a liver and white pointer female and a littermate to the runner-up, as previously stated, would run on day two, in the next to last brace of the trial. Ivy was handled by her trainer, John Stolgitis. She was strong and forward, tallying five finds, finishing her hour, going away and "scorching" the ground.

We want to congratulate the winners and thank everyone for their continued support. We can't wait to see everyone there next year!
