NGSPA Region 4 Open Shooting Dog Championship: Mike Northwood, Dan DiMambro, April DiMambro with Monkeyshines Callme The Breeze, Kirk Loftin, Sherri Tangsrud with Uodibar's Lnstr Pushin The Limits, Charlie Fenech, and Terry Trzinski.

The NGSPA Region 4 Championship kicked off on May 3 at the outstanding grounds in Ionia, once again showcasing why this event remains one of the longest-running and most respected championships in the NGSPA circuit. With excellent grounds, favorable conditions, and strong competition, handlers and owners from across the Midwest gathered to compete in a championship that continues to carry deep tradition and importance within the breed.

The Open Shooting Dog and Amateur Shooting Dog stakes were judged by Charlie Fenech and Mike Northwood, while Hank Lewis and Charlie Fenech judged the Open All-Age stake. The club extends sincere appreciation to all three judges for their time, attention, and dedication throughout the championship. Their efforts, professionalism, and understanding of the game helped ensure fair evaluations and quality championships.

The Open All-Age Championship produced two outstanding performances. Champion honors went to Monkeyshines Callme The Breeze, owned by Helmut Schoen and handled by Dan DiMambro. "Breezy" delivered a powerful all-age performance, showing the independence, drive, and forward application expected of a championship all-age dog. She carded three well-spaced finds during a strong race that consistently hit the objectives and carried to the front with style and intensity.

Runner-up honors went to Stoney Hill's Pinnacle Dee, owned and handled by Kirk Loftin. Dee turned in an impressive effort of her own with a big race and four finds. Her performance demonstrated excellent bird work and consistency throughout the hour, making for a highly competitive Open All-Age Championship.

The Open Shooting Dog Championship was also won by Monkeyshines Callme The Breeze, giving Breezy an outstanding performance at the Region 4 Championship. Breezy put together a polished and forward shooting dog race while carding an impressive six finds. She showed exceptional application, style on game, and composure throughout her hour to secure the championship title.

Runner-up in the Open Shooting Dog stake went to Uodibar's Lnstr Pushin the Limits, better known as "Hermes," owned by Sherri Tangsrud and handled by Kirk Loftin. Hermes delivered a strong shooting dog performance with a quality race and excellent bird work to earn runner-up honors in a competitive field.

The Amateur Shooting Dog Championship produced another pair of quality performances. Champion honors went to Uodibar's Back In The Game, better known as "Dakota," owned and handled by Kirk Loftin. Dakota ran a strong, consistent shooting dog race, carding four finds. His performance displayed excellent application, style, and bird work throughout the championship hour, securing the title.

Runner-up honors went to Macke's Jax Black Label ("Jax"), owned and handled by Katelyn Macke. Jax also turned in an impressive performance with four finds and a quality race from start to finish. This championship marked the first time Katelyn handled her dog in a championship stake, making the accomplishment especially memorable and a tremendous showing for both dog and handler.

As always, the Region 4 Championship required tremendous preparation and behind-the-scenes support. From securing grounds and organizing logistics to handling horses, birds, meals, and day-to-day operations, events like this only continue because of the people willing to put in the work. A special thank you goes out to Andy Dynkiewicz and Becky Dynkiewicz for their continued support and hard work throughout the championship. The club would also like to recognize Jen Goodall, Marc McKinley, Chris Young, Dick Lipski, Katelyn Macke, and Kirk Loftin for all of their help and contributions in making the event successful. Championships of this caliber simply do not happen without dedicated people willing to step up and help wherever needed.

The Ionia grounds once again proved to be exceptional. The courses offered a true shooting dog and all-age venue with objectives, bird work opportunities, and plenty of ground to separate the field. Handlers were able to showcase their dogs in conditions that rewarded application, intelligence, endurance, and class.

The Region 4 Championship committee would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Purina for their continued sponsorship and support of the NGSPA and horseback field trials. Terry Trzcinski was in attendance representing the company, and his support of the event and the sport was greatly appreciated by everyone involved. Purina's commitment to the breed and to field trials continues to help make events like this possible.

Most importantly, the Region 4 Championship committee would like to sincerely thank every owner, handler, scout, and participant who attended and supported the event. Continued participation is what keeps these championships alive and preserves the future of horseback field trials for generations to come. The support shown by those who continue to enter, travel, and compete does not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated.

The Region 4 Championship remains one of the premier NGSPA events in the country, and the club looks forward to building on that tradition for years to come.
