Amateur Derby Winners. From left: Rock Acre Yellow Hawk with Brody Byrd, Cocklebur Chocolicious with Bubba Spencer, Colt Spencer, and Cocklebur Dragon Tattoo posed by Amy Spencer and Lowery Strickland. Back row: David Wynn and Judge Kent Walker.

This year's running of the Wolf River Amateur trial was held October 21-23 on the Peterson, Powers, White and Weaver Farms in Hickory Valley, Tenn.

The weather was very favorable for the three days of entries. Lots of birdwork was seen in the All-Age and Shooting Dog. A few Derbies had bird work.

Dale Poole and Nick Thompson were the judges for the All-Age Stake and placed Cocklebur King Tut first. Tut had a nice forward running ground race and two finds for handler Bubba Spencer. Rebel Grace, owned and handled by David Williams, was second. Third was Misty Morn Masked Man for owner-handler Joey McAlexander.

The Shooting Dog Stake was judged by Joey McAlexander and Gregg Tapp. Nickajack Pathfinder was first for owner-handler Ross Leonard with one find and an unproductive. Cocklebur Drama Queen was second for owner-handler Amy Spencer. Warioto's Crazy Daisy was third for owner and handler Scott Little.

Stegan Smith and Kent Walker judged the Derby. Rock Acre Yellow Hawk was named winner for owner-handler Ric Peterson. Cocklebur Chocolicious was second for owner and handler Bubba Spencer and Cocklebur Dragon Tattoo was named third for owner-handler Amy Spencer

A big thank you to Amy and Bubba Spencer, Squeak y Powell, and David Wynn for making sure the trial ran smoothly.

A special thank you is extended to Ric Peterson and adjacent landowners Conrad Powers, Phillip White and the Weaver family for allowing us to use their property.

Additional thanks to Sportsman's Pride for their generous sponsorship!
