The Hanover Field Trial Association's Fall U. S. Complete trial was held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Cohoke Shooting Preserve. The Association would like to thank the Gottwald family for allowing the trial to be held on their private shooting preserve.
Dennis Bosewell had the facilities in good condition for the field trial. The Club is fortunate to have use of these pristine grounds for field trials. It was a beautiful sunny day, a good day to run dogs.
We would like to thank Purina for being the National Sponsor of the U. S. Complete weekend and championship trials. Purina is providing discount coupons for their dog food to all dogs who have earned placements in the various stakes.
Several club members pitched in to make this field trial a success. David Coleman and Kirk Regensburg planted birds. Retta Ramkey typed the program. Hall Carter drove the dog wagon to transport both dogs and handlers to the starting line. The gallery wagon was provided by Pat Brooks. Dennis Kivikko drove the truck that pulled the gallery wagon.
Charlotte Regensburg provided lunch. The Hanover club is fortunate to have many members and wives who help make this trial a success. We appreciate everyone's help in making our trial a success.
There were nine dogs in the Puppy stake, four in the Derby, and 11 were entered in the Shooting Dog. Judging the Puppy stake were Jameson Crandall and Kirk Regensburg. Garrett Preis and Butch Haywood judged both the Derby and Shooting Dog stakes.
"Marlo," a setter male, took first in the Puppy stake. Owned and handled by Mike McIntyre, Marlo started with a big run and handled very well from beginning to end. He hunted objectives purposefully and was very impressive. Marlo is very attractive on the ground. Second was "Reggie," a pointer male. Handled by Tyler Wolf, he had a big run but not as strong as the first-place dog. Reggie is a nice, pretty running dog on the ground. Third place was "Vector," a French Brittany female. Handled by Jenna Johnson, Vector did not have as strong a start, but she finished with a strong run at the end. All three dogs were impressive, showing very good running on the ground.
In the Derby stake, "Tuss," a pointer male, took first place. Handled by Frankie Barnes, Tuss had a strong run and hit all his objectives. Second place was "Kelly," a pointer male, handled by Kirk Regensburg. Kelly had a strong run and handled very well. Third place was "Hawkeye," a pointer male. He was handled by Darrel Miller. Hawkeye had a big run. He handled well with a nice finish.
The Shooting Dog stake was highly competitive, with dogs and handlers showing the judges and gallery a number of high-class bird dogs and terrific sportsmanship among handlers. The grounds at Cohoke can be challenging as they are not that big and are tight at times. At the same time, between big turns in the course and the ups and downs of the terrain, it can be easy to lose a dog, especially on foot. The winning dogs in this stake were always forward but stayed in touch with their handlers and consistently showed themselves, with style and composure, on a lot of impeccable bird work.
In the Shooting Dog stake, "Jack," a setter male, took first. Jack was handled by Lee Flanders. Jack chewed up the course with gusto while handling kindly. Throughout the entire course, Jack appeared to be a happy dog, cracking his tail with vigor and covering lots of ground with a nice rhythm between finds. Jack was always forward, exhibited perfect manners, and stood like a statue on his birds.
"Mavis," a pointer female, was second. Handled by Jameson Crandall, she had five finds and one unproductive. Mavis showed her maturity and class as three birds flushed around her before Crandall could get to her. Mavis covered a lot of ground and found birds by a cedar tree, where she was found on point and finished her nice run.
"Jack," owned and handled by Lee Flanders, was named Dog of the Day, winning the Waverly Coleman Shooting Dog trophy.
The Club would like to thank all the participants and guests for coming. The Association looks forward to its next U. S. Complete trial, scheduled for the spring.
In closing, we would like to pay tribute to two long-time members of the Hanover Field Trial Association who we have sadly lost: Art Mourino (April 9, 2025) and George Ramkey (December 8, 2025). Both Art and George were instrumental in putting on our trials. Always there to help with whatever was needed. They will be greatly missed.
