On October 25 and 26, 2025, the Central Prairie Field Trial Club held its fall club field trial. This year, for the first time, we moved our trial site to the Hamilton County Fish and Wildlife site. For many years, we were fortunate to host our trials at the Ellis farm in Orchardville, Illinois.

The Ellis farm was a great venue, and we were so happy to be able to hold our trials at that location. Issues arose, forcing us to find a new place to host our trials, and we were looking at several different sites. After looking at the Hamilton County site, we were excited to hold our trials on these grounds. Years ago, walking trials were held there in the spring and fall. The grounds became so overgrown that holding a trial there became very hard. When we went down and looked at the grounds again, we were astonished by the amount of work the crew at Hamilton County Fish and Wildlife had done to make a really good place to hold a walking trial. Hats off to the crew there for all the hard work they have done restoring the grounds to its current condition. We held our NBHA Amateur stakes on Saturday and Open stakes on Sunday. We had good weather for both days, but scenting conditions were not good either day.

To have a good trial, good judges are necessary, and we really met that standard. Judges for the trial were Keith Lowery, Georgie Casey, Rick Stanford, and Dan Crunk. Meals for both days were prepared by Jae Crunk. Having the clubhouse available was also an asset.

Amateur Shooting Dog
The Amateur Shooting Dog was won by Don Heisner and his male setter, "Buck." Buck, a son of Shadow Oak Bo, has been a consistent winner for Don for several years. Buck had a forward-reaching race and always hunting those spots that should hold birds. He finished his brace with two finds. Ken DeLong had the second-place dog, "Freedom," a pointer male. Freedom runs with style and stays to the front. "Jack," Rob Warner's setter male, took third place hunting every minute.

Amateur Derby
Brian Stockrahm's pointer male derby took first in this stake with a really nice race, and although running big enough, handled really well for Brian. Second place went to Ken DeLong with his young pointer female, "Mercy." She ran a nice forward race for Ken and stayed to the front the entire brace. Third place went to your scribe, Dan Crunk, with his male pointer, "Jack." Jack had several extended absences, always showing to the front.

Amateur Gun Dog
There was only one finisher in this stake: "Diamond," our friend John Landolina's German Shorthair female. Usually, his daughter runs Diamond in the Gun Dog, but school activities caused her to miss this trial. We missed her, but Dad did a nice job handling Diamond in this stake.

Amateur Puppy
Your scribe judged the Puppy stake and commented on what a really nice group of puppies ran in this stake. Six really nice puppies ran in this stake, and placing the first three pups was difficult as the quality of the entries was so good. Awarded
first was "Joker," Brian Stockahm's young pointer male. Joker ran a big race but handled and stayed to the front. Georgia Casey brought two nice pups, and her pointer female, "Holly," finished in second with a nice race and stayed to the front. Third place went to Declan Wheat with his young pointer, "Scout." Declan's grandfather, Frank Christie, indicates Declan is doing all of the training on this
young prospect.

Open Shooting Dog
The Open Shooting Dog was won by John Landolina's German Shorthair, Diamond, a broke dog always to the front and looking for birds. Diamond finished her 30 minutes with one find. Second went to "Boomer," Travis Patterson's young pointer male. Third place was awarded to Rob Warner's setter male, "Hawk."

Open Derby
Brian Stockrahm's pointer male, "Preacher," won the open Derby with a very nice race. Brian also had the second-place dog, Joker. Joker is only a puppy, but did a nice job for Brian in the Derby stake.

Open Gun Dog
The Gun Dog stake was really very competitive, with David Gate's setter female "Scout" taking home the first-place honors. Second place went to Diamond, John Landolina's German Shorthair female. Third place went to "Auddie," a pointer female, for Brian Stockrahm.

Open Puppy
Like Saturday's Puppy stake, the Open stake was also filled with really competitive puppies. Again, Brian Stockrahm took first with his pointer male, Joker. Second place went to Megan Greathouse, handling Travis Patterson's young setter female, "Suzy." Third place went to Travis Patterson with "Buster," a pointer male.
The Central Prairie Field Trial Club would like to thank all the owners and handlers who supported our fall trial. We will be back in Hamilton County in March. Watch for our dates. We especially want to recognize and thank our sponsors: Purina and Gun Dog Supply.
