Middle Atlantic Open Shooting Dog Championship (l-r): Karen Janiec, Mark Janiec, Mike Tracy, Casey Tracy, Mary Tracy with baby Mary Tracy, Bo Brewer with Miller's High Heat Index, Muriel Primm, Ernie Saniga, Haley Moreland with Erin's Envy, Bill Bonnetti (judge), Gus Alimonos (judge), Bill Primm, Sandy F. and George Tracy.

The Middle Atlantic Championship ran at Greenwood Wildlife Management Area in Lacey Township, New Jersey. The grounds received some much-needed cleanup during the off-season, removing many of the scrub pines that were starting to overtake the area. We would like to thank the state for all the work that was done to make these grounds as nice as any in the Northeast.

We are a small group hanging on with the goal of running a top-quality championship, and I believe we have accomplished that goal. Special thanks to Joe Cincotta, Muriel Primm, and Mark Janiec for all their hard work. We could not have run these stakes without their efforts. Special thanks also to Norman Basilone for planting birds during the Amateur Classic.

The Middle Atlantic Shooting Dog Championship started off this trio of stakes. Special thanks to Bill Bonnetti and Gus Aliminos for stepping in to judge. We appreciate their time in the saddle. Narrowing down the winners from the contenders is not always easy, but they got the decision right, and everyone in attendance knew it.

A special thanks to our judges of the Bill Beyer Open Derby, Joe Cincotta and Joe Lordi, and to the judges of the Bill and Muriel Primm Amateur Shooting Dog Classic, David Creagan and Matt Basilone.

The winners, Miller's High Heat Index, crowned champion, and Erin's Envy, named runner-up champion, are on a roll. Both came off the same results in the Northeastern Championship the prior week.

Miller's High Heat Index, run by Mike Tracy and owned by Allen Linder, Casey Tracy, and Madison McDonald, ran a spectacular race. High Heat Index ran in the last brace as a bye and took full advantage of having the course to himself, scoring five outstanding finds with impeccable style and manners. He needed little, if any, scouting, blazed through the course, and was found standing many times. There was no doubt about the outcome when the hour was complete for all who witnessed this excellent performance.

Erin's Envy, handled by Mike Tracy, set the early standard in the fourth brace with a strong effort. He scored an early find, and when his bracemate faltered, he had the course to himself and took full advantage. He stood high and tight on all three of his finds. He was charged with one unproductive but also had a strong forward race to earn runner-up champion.

The Bill Beyer Open Derby had only eight dogs, but it was highly contested. George Tracy won it with Bryant's Sunset Silver Surfer, owned by Mark Janiec. Surfer bested the field with stylish bird work and a strong forward race. Hightailing Cindy was a close second for handler Mike Tracy and owners Kevin and Maureen Joyce. Cindy showcased a strong forward race with three finds. Peek A Bull took third with a strong race and multiple classy finds for owner/handler Ernie Saniga.

The Bill and Muriel Primm Amateur Shooting Dog Classic saw Marcus Ramaeur win with a masterful job handling Fort River's Lucky Charm to the front, with six finds and a strong forward race for owner Gary Tavares from Southbridge, Massachusetts. Second, with two finds, was Red Alert Lane, handled by owner Ed McCay. In third was Newfield Primus, handled by owner Bo Mamounis, with four classy finds and a strong race.
