The Ingersoll-McFarlin Ranch is the home of the Inola Open All-Age trials and the Oklahoma Open All-Age Championship. There is a lot of history here with these two trials. When the Quail Futurity was run with these trials, we remember having over 100 entries. I remember having 60 and even 70 dogs in the Oklahoma Championship, not that many years ago. Well, as with everything else, nothing stays the same, and that goes with field trials especially. Entries have declined over the years for numerous reasons, and here in the Midwest, it's no exception.
That was recalled from last year's report. Fast forward to this year, and it gets a little more complicated. After record rainfall this spring and summer, we had explosive growth on the Ranch. We were forced to do more mowing than ever. But when the blue stem and foxtail grew above head high, we were forced to look for another venue. After several weeks, it was decided to move the trial to the grounds at Blue Mountain in Booneville, Arkansas. I had only been there three or maybe four times before to pick up birds for the Ingersoll-McFarlin Ranch, but had never ridden the courses.
I have chaired and field marshaled countless trials at Inola, but I knew the grounds very well. Now I must admit I was completely out of my element. It was difficult to bring any help with us on such short notice of the venue change, but with guidance from Ronnie Miller, we pulled it off. I want to thank some of those who really stepped in and helped out. First was Alex Jacocks, who judged without any complaint, and then Bob Barker, who stepped in as a judge when Ken Chenoweth had a family tragedy and had to cancel. Then there was Ronnie Miller, who really made it all happen for the trial. Everett Brannon also helped do some field marshaling and gave some general guidance when Ronnie was not at hand. And let's not forget the dog wagon driver, Jerry Oswalt, who was never out of shouting distance and always had something to eat and drink.
The venue of Blue Mountain is really a special place. It is absolutely gorgeous! The grounds had been meticulously mowed and groomed to perfection. I must admit I was informed of "the bridge" several days before the trial. Having only two very young horses, I was a bit apprehensive as the trial started. After having crossed it over and over, it is now a very special memory.

In the Inola Open All-Age, first place went to Wynona's Rebel, handled by Allen Vincent. He was reaching the limits of the course and, about at the midway point, had a nice single find. He went on to finish very strong. Second place went to I'm Gallant, handled by Allen Vincent, with a nice all-age race and a nice find with everything in place. Third place went to Athena Angel of Blackhawk, handled by Ryan Eichelberger. She had a covey find at the five-minute mark and went on with a nice race.

Oklahoma Open All-Age Championship
In the Oklahoma Open All-Age Championship, the named champion was I'm Gallant, handled by Allen Vincent. He had a huge race to the front. At the 50-minute mark, he made a huge cast down the hedgerow just west of the bridge. Then from there he went hunting at the feed strips before you get to the bridge, where he was found on point. Vincent flushed a big covey in front of him, and he had perfect manners. He then went on to a big finish towards the bridge.
Runner-up was Wynona's Nickleback Sugar, also handled by Allen Vincent. This brace started out on Course 2 because the previous brace had been picked up early. Both Sugar and her running mate, Covey Rise Strike Zone, handled by Andy Daugherty, got buried up in a draw on the right. Vincent called and called on Sugar, but she did not show up in the corner where a lot of dogs get lost or behind. Just before it looked like Vincent was going to pull out the tracker at the road, he called point. A single was produced with all in order while Covey Rise Strike Zone backed. She went on to have a good race to finish to the front.
