The spring running of the Black Moshannon trial was held the weekend of April 12-13, with 56 dogs competing in four different stakes, including the popular Amateur Shooting dog stake. This was the last trial of the busy season at the Black Moshannon trial grounds, which included two different championships running prior to this trial.
In the Open Shooting Dog stake with judges Jeff Keller and Marissa Everett, Doodle Ridge Elroy, handled by Bruce Mueller, won the blue ribbon with a strong up front race with an excellent grouse find buried deep in the laurel on Course 2, the same course the winner was named with a grouse at the Ontario Championship. Grouse Hill Mac, handled by Scott Forman, took home the red ribbon with a nice woodcock find. Grouse Hill Princess took home the yellow ribbon with a big fancy race.
Judges Tom Kieffer and Matt Null took on the task of watching over 14 amateur shooting dogs. Named the winner was Town Creek Rambler, handled by Tom Blessing, whose sire Doodle Ridge Elroy won the Open Shooting Dog. Shuster put down a big run to earn his ribbon. Grouse Hill Rambo, handled by owner John Capocci, was named in second place with a fancy forward run. Named third was Resin with Kevin Lahoda, with a nice forward, easy handling run.
Bruce Mueller and Jarrod Specht were tasked with judging the highly competitive Open Derby. Earning the blue ribbon with a fast and forward race and a high cracking tail was River's Edge Gus, handled by Pat Cooke. Mark Forman handled Twilight's Problem Child for owner Mark Deneka. Placing third was Anna Lake Kali, also handled by Marc Forman, for owner Rob Matson. Kali had an easy, pleasing run with a nice cracking tail.
Finally, the inaugural running of the Ryan Frame Memorial Puppy Classic was watched over by judges Eric Locher and Joe Szcwczak. With a front and fancy race, Grouse Hill Patch, owned by John Capocci and handled by Marc Forman, took home the blue ribbon and will have the first name on the rotating plaque. Close behind Patch was Gretna Crest Lampoon's Margo, owned and handled by Tom Blessing. Margo was running to the edge at times and handled well through the different turns. Finally, taking home the yellow ribbon was Grouse Hill Dixie, handled by Scott Forman and owned by John Capocci. Dixie, sister to winner Patch, was moving easily through the cover and staying forward with her run.
