NGSPA of Ohio Open Shooting Dog Championship (standing, l-r): Jimmy Johnson (judge), Dan DiMambro with Macke's Jim Bob, Al Cropek (judge), April DiMambro with Monkeyshines Callme the Breeze, Chris Young, and Robert Reynolds, DVM. (Front): Isaiyah and Arayah.
The 2025 running of the Ohio Championship began on April 21 at the Tri-Valley Wildlife Area near Dresden, Ohio, and concluded on April 25.
The Ohio Division of Wildlife had the clubhouse, kennels, corrals, and field trial grounds in excellent condition. Recent cattle grazing and mowing increased the visibility to a perfect level to watch big-running dogs compete in this venue. Several out-of-state competitors remarked that they felt that Ohio's field trial area offered a great championship trial ground.
Our judges for the Open Shooting Dog were Al Cropek from Pennsylvania and Jim Johnson from Ohio, and both men are long-time field trialers. Al Cropek and Chris Young, both from Pennsylvania, judged the All-Age Championship. The Amateur Shooting Dog Championship was judged by Jack Alexander from Ohio and Aaron McAfee from Illinois. The weather for our Championships was good, with storms passing around us and only causing a few hours' delay during the week of running dogs. The Derby Classic had to be cancelled due to the constraints of time.
Our judges gave all entries their full attention, and many competitors expressed their appreciation of our judiciary.
Our successful trial was made possible by the members of the German Shorthair Pointer Club of Ohio, who contributed their time and talent for our event. I would especially like to thank our secretary, Jen Goodall, Chris Young, Bob Reynolds, Scott and Ann Weslow, Charlie and Laurie Brown, Fred Ryan, as well as our bird planters, Chris Young and Russ Roth. They did a terrific job of planting birds and keeping the trial moving on schedule.
Once again, Purina is to be thanked for their continued support of our field trial events, and SportDOG for also providing training collars for our amateur champions.
We want to thank our pros who support our trial--Joe Orndorff, Dan DiMambro, and Chris Goegan. And amateurs Chris Young, Chuck Gonzalez, Jesse Conroy, Abe Macke, Hank Lewis, Fred Ryan, Kirk Loftin, Sheri Tangsrud, all who help out to make these trials possible.
