Oklahoma Open Shooting Dog Championship: Mike Griffin, Nathan Berendzen (judge), Virgil Moore with Touch's Steely Dan, Eddy Berendzen (judge), Bud Moore with Fast Money, and Justin Crook.
With a respectable draw of 36 shooting dogs and 18 derbies, we started on Friday with fair weather. We got in a few good days but knew it wouldn't last; we lost sun to high wind and rain.
We resumed Monday to extreme cold but sunshine. All through the trial, we moved a good number of birds. Monday did not deter from bird finding.
The winner came from the third course Monday morning.
Winner Touch's Steely Dan (Moore) turned loose at twin gates going into the south pasture. It was cold, crisp, and sunny and appeared to handle well. He was always in touch with his handler, staying up front hunted all the places where birds would hide; he was rewarded with four very nice finds handled all with style that would catch your eye. He finished in the front with all the power you would want.
Runner-up Fast Money (Crook), a very nice Pointer female, ran in the second brace after lunch. She had a very consistent race up front using the country to the best as you would hope for. She was rewarded with two very stylish finds. She stayed in touch with her handler and searched the country well.
